Note (as of 2026): After the 2021 volcanic eruption, many places on the west coast – especially in Puerto Naos – were closed for a long time. Please check which of the venues mentioned have reopened.
La Palma has almost no chains (the exception: a McDonald’s in Santa Cruz) – but plenty of independent, honest venues. And the prices are fair: beer from €1.50, cortado €0.80, small tapas €3–4.
Breakfast & coffee
Typical are small filled baguettes (bocadillos) with cheese, ham or tortilla, along with a cortado (espresso with warm milk) or café con leche.
- Bar Resbel (Puerto Naos) – good cortado, tasty bocadillos.
- Kiosko La Cabaña del Puerto (Tazacorte) – a harbour kiosk with charm.
- Kiosko Aridane (Los Llanos) – lovely spot in the town centre.
- La Vitamina (Los Llanos) – vegetarian & vegan.
Restaurants
- La Perla Negra (El Paso) – upscale, Spanish-Palmeran-international.
- Tasca Catalina (El Paso) – one of the best tapas places on the island.
- Tasca La Luna (Los Llanos) – Palmeran cuisine with a courtyard.
- Las Norias (between Los Llanos and Puerto Naos) – grill platter for two or more.
- Restaurant La Nao & Playa Chica (Puerto Naos) – fish with sea and sunset views.
- El Jardín de la Sal (Fuencaliente) – uniquely located by the salt flats.
Bars & sundowners
Local beers: Dorada and Tropical, plus La Palma’s own Cervecería Isla Verde. And do try a barraquito (espresso with Licor 43, condensed milk, lime and cinnamon).
- Kiosko Ocean Drive & Love on the Beach (Puerto Naos) – the best sundowner spots.
- Laly’s Bar El Bucanero (Puerto Naos) – from morning until 2 a.m., live music, a big gin selection.
- Bar Parada (Fuencaliente) – famous for its almond biscuits.
Nightlife
- Kapitol (Los Llanos) – the island’s only club.
- Bar Caotico (Puerto Naos) – pool, darts, pinball, open late.
