La Palma has almost no chains, but plenty of independent, honest venues. And prices are fair: beer around €1.80, cortado around €1.20, small tapas from €5. A note in advance: many popular spots are in Puerto Naos, which was closed for a long time after the volcano. That is why I have deliberately also included tips that were not affected.
As of 2026, after the volcano: After the eruption of the Tajogaite volcano from 19 September to 13 December 2021, La Palma has long been fully open to visitors again. As of August 2026, Puerto Naos too is fully open again apart from a few corners.
Breakfast and coffee
Typical are small filled baguettes (bocadillos) with cheese, ham or tortilla, along with a cortado (espresso with warm milk) or café con leche.
- Kiosko Aridane (Los Llanos): a lovely spot in the town centre, under the trees.
- El Café de Don Manuel (Los Llanos): with its own coffee roastery.
- Casa Emblemática Poggio Maldonado (Argual near Los Llanos): in the oldest manor house of Argual (1732), homemade coffees and light fare in a stylish garden and historic setting.
- Kiosko La Cabaña del Puerto (Tazacorte): a harbour kiosk with charm.
- Bar Resbel (Puerto Naos): good cortado, tasty bocadillos.
Restaurants
- Restaurante Las Olas (Puerto Naos): Palmeran cuisine and a fantastic view at sunset.
- Restaurante Orinoco (Puerto Naos): simple Palmeran cooking.
- Restaurante La Nao (Puerto Naos): fish with sea and sunset views.
- Kiosco La Charca (El Remo): Palmeran cuisine and a fantastic view at sunset.
Bars and sundowners
Local beers are Dorada and Tropical, plus La Palma’s own Cervecería Isla Verde. And do try a barraquito (espresso with Licor 43, condensed milk, lime and cinnamon).
- Bar Parada (Fuencaliente): famous for its almond biscuits.
- Kiosko Ocean Drive and Love on the Beach (Puerto Naos): the best sundowner spots.
- El Rincón del Pirata (pirate bar): a great bar in an extraordinary spot.
Nightlife
- Kapitol (Los Llanos): the island’s only club.
- Bar Caótico (Puerto Naos): pool, darts, pinball, open late.
